Hong Kong Private 4 hour / half day Tours

The amazing Cheung Chau Island, just a short ferry ride from Hong Kong Island

As islands go Cheung Chau is small, roughly one square mile which means it is all but impossible to get lost! it is what I call an ambling place, in other words you do not rush around, you simply amble and smell the roses.

The attraction of Cheung Chau is that it is a total contrast to Hong Kong, it is sleepy and very laid back particularly during the week but it has enough interesting things to do that it really is worth a visit.

A visit to Cheung Chau makes for the perfect 4 hour half day tour including the ferry ride there and back.

Simply awesome

Buns, yes, Cheung Chau is famous for the Bun Festival normally held in May every year

Awesome - not my favourite snack as the bun itself is very bland but it is a tradition and some buns are filled with a sweet paste and / or custard which makes them much more interesting.

Cheung Chau was famous for it's fishing fleet which is a shadow of it's former self but there are sufficient boats left to serve as a reminder of what it used to be... the Bun Festival gets bigger every year and is quite splendid.

The slow pace of life on Cheung Chau Island

A slow pace of life indeed, there are some nice Temples, a gaggle of old people retirement homes, a lovely beach (after it has been cleaned) a slightly seedy holiday home complex (The Miami Resort) a hotel that has a reputation akin to Fawlty Towers, bars, restaurants, lovely street food and on a weekend an atmosphere is that is positively contagious.

Just some of the many plus points of Cheung Chau... there is one big bluebottle fly in the ointment - the VV Trucks, small village vehicles that are normally full of construction stuff such as rubble and wet concrete which roar at high speed up and down the main road / promenade on Cheung Chau, I hate them, I mean I really hate them, they appear to have been de - muffled and have this awful sound like a souped up lawn mower on steroids and they are like a plague of locusts - I am just saying.

Do take the time to explore the island in full and then take the slow ferry back to Hong Kong, go in deluxe class on the top deck and sit outside.. it is awesome, particularly at sunset.

Oh my golly gosh, the simply amazing Pagani Zonda Absolute - this is a custom made car and is rumoured to be the only one of it's kind in the world and it is in Hong Kong!... oh... and yes, this is my picture, talk about being in the right place at the right time.
